Sefali Patel, PharmD, MBA, RPh, shares her foundation-first approach to building a supplement routine that works for real life
With more than 20 years in the dietary supplement industry and a background as a pharmacist, Sefali Patel, PharmD, MBA, RPh, knows a lot about what goes into building a thoughtful supplement routine.
As MegaFood’s VP of R&D and Regulatory, Sefali also spends her days immersed in the science, quality, and research behind supplements. But when it comes to her own routine, her approach is refreshingly practical: start with a strong foundation, build around your individual needs, and make it easy enough to stick with.
“I am a true believer in taking a proactive approach to living a healthier life.”

Starting With the Foundation
When building her own supplement routine, Sefali starts with the nutrients she considers foundational.
Vitamin D3 is one of them. Because she knows her own vitamin D levels tend to run low, daily supplementation is an important part of her personalized routine.
“Vitamin D3 is so important, and many people are not getting enough. I know I'm not.”
Omega-3 Fish Oil rounds out that foundation, providing essential fatty acids that support heart, brain, eye, and joint health.†
From there, Sefali’s routine becomes more individualized.
“The approach I take is starting with the foundation first. From here, I tailor it to what’s important for me and my life stage.”
Building Around Personal Priorities
Once her foundation is in place, Sefali adds targeted supplements based on the areas of health she wants to support.
Her daily stack includes NAD+ Boost, which supports cellular energy production and healthy aging, along with Hair Growth for targeted beauty support.† Ashwagandha Gummies are part of her approach to supporting a healthy stress response, while MegaFlora Probiotic provides daily support for gut health.†
She also prioritizes staying active and supporting her body for the long term. Collagen Peptides and Magnesium Tablets fit into that bigger picture, supporting areas like muscle, bone, and connective tissue health.†
“I want to have healthy joints so I can continue to stay active and be able to enjoy the hobbies and activities I do in life.”
For Sefali, these choices reflect a proactive approach to wellness rather than a desire to build the biggest possible stack.
Making Supplements Part of Everyday Life
Even a well-designed supplement routine only works if you actually follow it. Rather than treating supplements as another item on her to-do list, Sefali builds them into habits that already exist.
Most of her routine is centered around two points in the day: morning with or after breakfast, and evening after dinner. Collagen Peptides get an especially easy habit pairing: she adds them directly to her morning coffee.
“These are long-term habits, so I make sure I can incorporate them into my daily routines so I know I’ll stick to them.”
Melatonin is the exception. Rather than taking it every night, Sefali keeps it on hand for occasional use closer to bedtime when she feels she needs additional sleep support.†
How Sefali’s Pharmacy and R&D Background Shapes Her Choices
As MegaFood’s VP of R&D and Regulatory, a pharmacist by training, and a supplement industry expert with more than 20 years of experience, Sefali has a unique perspective on choosing supplements. Her background gives her the ability to look closely at scientific research and use that information to make decisions based on her own needs.
“I am so fortunate and grateful that I have the ability to dig into the scientific research, understand it, and make choices that are right for me.”
That same individualized mindset is central to her overall philosophy. A supplement routine does not have to look exactly the same for everyone, and it does not necessarily have to look exactly the same every day.
A Routine With Room to Flex
Consistency matters, but Sefali also recognizes something many people who take supplements can relate to: sometimes, you simply get tired of taking pills.
When pill fatigue sets in, she does not abandon her routine altogether. Instead, she scales back to her foundational supplements and gradually adds the rest back when she is ready.
That flexibility is part of what makes her approach sustainable.
“Don’t force it. It can’t be viewed as a chore, but as a way of living and doing something good for yourself. Start small, get some easy wins in, and before you know it, you are living it.”
Sefali’s routine is a reminder that building a supplement habit does not have to happen all at once. Start with what matters most to you, find simple ways to fit it into your day, and build from there.
